What’s in store you say?

Our bikes!

I’ve finally managed to get all of the bikes that have been donated out of my flat and in to storage after securing a space where I can also fix up them up and hold workshops for young people in the community. The space is within a co-operative workshop called The Remakery in Brixton, which diverts valuable waste materials away from landfill and supports the local community in increasing their skills, confidence and employment opportunities. It was born in 2012 out of a disused car park in and is home to a community of makers, artists, local residents and enterprises.

We’re also looking at using the space to run bike maintenance workshops for young people in the area. They’ll be able to work with a qualified mechanic during a 4-week programme to refurbish a donated bike, learning basic mechanical skills in the process. The bicycle is then theirs to ride away. Once they have the bicycle they’ll be able to bring it in to the workshop where we will help them keep it running smoothly and fix any issues for free.

The programme is designed to emphasise empowerment and self-reliance, involving practical, hands-on engagement that functions as a bonding process between owner and bicycle.

Watch out for more news about the workshops coming soon and get in touch if you know of a community project in the Lambeth area that would be interested in attending.
